Approx. 8339 miles thus far.
Approx. 1106 miles to go.
We headed out of the KOA in Cannonville at 8 o'clock this morning and at Bryce Canyon City, UT we stopped at the Subway there for a couple of their breakfast sandwiches to go, then headed for a stop a Red Canyon Visitor's Center for a short while. We proceeded to Panguitch to top off our fuel tank and returned to the highway northbound until we intersected UT20 West toward I-15. We weren't real sure about fuel stops along the way. I had looked at maps last night and we seemed far and few between on our route. As it turned out there were no worries as we made it to just inside the Nevada border to fuel up after traveling one of those stretches that stated 'No Services Next 83 Miles!' We had plenty of fuel to spare.
Anyway, US50/US6 took us on into
Ely, NV without any trouble. The vistas seen along the way are stunning, but who'd want to live there??? Not us!!!
After checking in at the KOA we took off for town to see the sights. Not much to speak of here. It's a typical small Nevada town - casinos, bars, casinos, restaurants, casinos . . . you get the idea. We tried finding some place to eat that didn't smell horribly of stale cigarettes and finally came upon a Chinese place with 'No Smoking' in the window. We didn't expect much but we were pleasantly surprised by the high quality of the food we ordered!
After topping off with diesel ($3.00 per gallon!) we returned 'home' to rest up for a longer drive tomorrow.
