We left Las Cruces this morning at about 9:30 enroute to Van Horn, TX. It was only about 50 or so miles to El Paso, TX, where I had spent a couple of years back in 1956-57 when my dad was stationed at Ft. Bliss, TX  and he was assigned to the Nike-Zeus anti-missle program there. I don't remember a whole lot about the area, but it sure seems MUCH bigger now than before!
About 20 miles east of El Paso, on I-10, they upped the speed limit to 80 MPH for cars and 75 MPH for trucks. I didn't know any state had speed limits over 75 MPH.
The trip was only 167 miles today and a little windy, mostly from our rear so we were able to easily cruise at 65 MPH with no strain what-so-ever! We did stop to grab a bite about 60 miles west of Van Horn at a small restaurant called
Angies at the Ft. Hancock, TX exit on I-10 that had excellent food. Shirlee said that we should turn it in to the 'Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives' program.
We are now at the Van Horn KOA and it's nothing really to write home about. It is flat here and dusty when the wind picks up. Oh well, it's only for one night here. Then on to Kerrville, TX, which is our last stop before Port Aransas, TX!
They do have a little cafe here that starts serving breakfast at 7:30 AM!
